Nature

Discover the plants and wildlife that call Mosman home

Mosman is an important peninsula on Sydney's north shore with fragments of natural bushland and a bushy coastal fringe. A recent ecological survey of Mosman identified 499 native plant species and 64 native animal species, including 3 amphibians, 43 birds, 9 mammals and 9 species of reptile that frequent the peninsula. There were four threatened fauna species found too, including the Powerful Owl, the Grey-Headed Flying-Fox, the Yellowbellied Sheathtail-Bat, and the Large-Eared Pied Bat.

Six of the bushland sites in Mosman contain Threatened Ecological Communities listed as Endangered.

Rich in birdlife and with a remarkably striking historical, urban, bush and harbour interface, the Mosman peninsula is a precious remnant of Australia's natural heritage in the heart of one of the world's most beautiful harbour cities.
