Mosman is an important peninsula on Sydney's north shore with fragments of natural bushland and a bushy coastal fringe. A recent ecological survey of Mosman identified 499 native plant species and 64 native animal species, including 3 amphibians, 43 birds, 9 mammals and 9 species of reptile that frequent the peninsula. There were four threatened fauna species found too, including the Powerful Owl, the Grey-Headed Flying-Fox, the Yellowbellied Sheathtail-Bat, and the Large-Eared Pied Bat.

Six of the bushland sites in Mosman contain Threatened Ecological Communities listed as Endangered.

Mosman, being on the harbour, experiences a more moderate coastal climate, with warm summers and mild winters. There is mostly pleasant weather from Spring (September/October) through to mid Autumn (March/April) with average temperatures between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius.
