Using the Kuno platform for Nature

This is the terms of use policy for Kuno Ltd, a social enterprise business based in Australia.

Kuno was established with the purpose of protecting and restoring nature, connecting people with nature, and helping transform humanity’s relationship with our planet so that people and nature can thrive together.

Kuno seeks to achieve these goals through the Kuno platform, designed to provide comprehensive information about nature, connect people with nature, foster people’s love for nature, and through that love, to ensure for the protection and restoration of our natural world.

We seek to give our users as much freedom as possible on our platform and for this platform to be a forum for the sharing of the beauty, joy and love for the natural world and its transformative power and need for protection. We believe this is best achieved through the fostering of a positive, constructive, inclusive and empowering culture on this platform, and so we have set out some basic ground rules for use of the platform.

Who Can Use Kuno

By registering and setting up a profile on Kuno, you are verifying that:

  • You are 13 years or older, or that you have the consent of your parent or a person holding parental responsibility
  • You are using the same name you use in day-to-day life. Kuno does not accept pseudonyms or fake profiles
  • You are being truthful and accurate in the information contained in your profile
  • You have only one personal account
  • If you are registering on behalf of an organisation, that you are an authorised representative of that organisation and authorised to register and manage the account on their behalf
  • You are not someone who is barred from receiving services under the laws of the applicable jurisdiction
  • You are not someone who has previously been banned from the use of the Kuno platform

What you can share and do on Kuno

As part of becoming a registered user of the Kuno platform, you can establish your public profile on the platform and submit articles, images or videos for publication on the platform, that will be linked to your profile page. The aim is for this platform to be a central site for learning about, connecting with and sharing your love for the natural world, the challenges facing the natural world, and the importance of its protection.

It is an expectation of your use of the platform that you comply with some basic ground rules:

In particular, you will:

  • Take on your own responsibility for the accuracy, truthfulness and legality of anything posted under your own name on the platform
  • Not do anything on the platform that is illegal, deceptive, fraudulent or discriminatory
  • Not do anything on the platform that violates other people’s rights
  • Not upload spyware, malware, viruses or other malicious codes to the platform
  • Make all efforts, whilst being frank, honest and forthright, not to engage in personal abuse, vilification, ad hominem attacks or other destructive forms of communication or commentary on the platform, as opposed to focussing on thoughtful debate, persuasion, dialogue and critique

Permission to use content that you create and share

Some of the content that you share or upload on this platform, such as photos or videos, may be protected by intellectual property law.

However, by posting this content to this platform, you are giving us legal permission (‘licence’) for the use of this content within the site and our associated newsletter and social media feeds, for the purposes of promoting the platform and improving the use of the platform.

When you share, post or upload content onto this platform, you give us the right to host, use, distribute, display the content or components of the content anywhere within the platform and the Kuno social media sites.

This might mean, for example, that if you upload an article on our platform, that your article might be shared to our social media profiles to encourage new users to visit the platform and read your article amongst others.

When you publish an image, video or article on the site, we may choose to display or link that through multiple locations on our platform, with appropriate credit. For example, your image or video might be linked to a particular location, trail, animal, or issue, your article might be linked to other articles. Your contribution to the platform will also be linked to your profile.

You can delete your contributions to the platform individually, or in their entirety, by deleting your account. In some small number of circumstances there may be some technical reasons why this content deletion may not happen immediately or they may be some circumstances, for example if other users have copied or used or shared your content, whereby it may not be possible to delete this content.

Prohibited Content on Platform

Kuno prohibits and will actively remove any content posted on the platform that:

  • Promotes activities or actions that are environmentally polluting or destructive to the natural environment
  • Promotes hatred, criminal behaviour or violence
  • Is pornographic or sexually explicit in nature
  • Is inauthentic, fraudulent, deceptive or defamatory
  • Engages in personal abuse, vitriol, bullying, harassment, trolling or other bad online behaviour
  • That violates other peoples’ intellectual property or copyright
  • Or that does not facilitate or foster the constructive tone of empowerment, engagement, civil disagreement, debate and dialogue about how to protect nature and transform our relationship with nature that we are trying to enable through this platform

Limitation of Content on the Platform

Kuno does not direct the content of people’s contributions on the platform and does not take responsibility for people’s contributions or conduct on this platform. You are responsible for the content you submit for posting on the site and must be comfortable in sharing this with others publicly before posting.

Kuno encourages honest, forthright, thoughtful contributions to public debate and dialogue on the values of nature, and how best to protect nature and ensure that people and nature can thrive together. Necessarily this will involve disagreement, criticism and sometimes fierce differences of opinion. We encourage that and see that as not just healthy but crucial in a vibrant, functioning democracy.

However, internet discussion and debate can descend to nasty, bitter, petty name calling, abuse, trolling and other destructive behaviours. We don’t want that behaviour on this platform, and we will do our utmost to foster a healthy positive dialogue and contributions from users through the Kuno platform.

Kuno reserves the right to make minor editorial changes to your article posts such as spelling mistakes or grammar, where that doesn’t change the intent or meaning of your contribution. We also from time to time may make suggested changes to your article submissions, posts or comments for your consideration and acceptance or not prior to publication.

If we do not believe that the contribution, post or article makes a positive contribution to the goals of the Kuno platform and a healthy debate and sharing of a love of nature, we also reserve the right to refuse to publish or delete article submissions, posts or comments on the platform.

Account Suspension or Termination

We want Kuno to be a positive platform that is welcoming to all people of all backgrounds in connecting with nature, and that makes a positive contribution to the future of our planet.

If users behave in a way or make a contribution to the platform in a manner that seriously or repeatedly breaches our terms or policies, that damages the goals of Kuno and this platform, or that damages the cause of the protection of nature, then Kuno reserves the right to suspend or permanently cancel your account.

Privacy

Kuno believes that privacy is a fundamental human right, and Kuno is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of the users of the Kuno platform.

Any data that Kuno retains about its users will only be used to enable Kuno to communicate with the users of the platform, to enable users to use the platform, and to help improve the platform and tailor the platform to the preferences of and an improved experience for the individual users on the platform.

Kuno will never sell or release any of its users’ information to commercial interests or other associated third parties.

The Kuno platform is public, and comments, posts, images, videos, profiles and articles made on Kuno are public and viewable and searchable by anyone around the world both on the Kuno platform and off it. When you post an article on the platform, make a comment, establish a contributors profile, post images or a video, then those activities can be viewed online by the users of the platform and by the public anywhere across the world. We are not responsible for, nor are we able to control the way that other people may use this public information. For this reason we strongly encourage you to be thoughtful and to protect your own personal privacy in your public posts on the platform.
