First connections at middle head

Mosman
The First Nations have occupied this land, the headlands of Sydney Harbour, for over 37,000 years.

They lived along these shores - there's evidence of these thousands of years of their occupation in caves, carvings, middens, and they fished the local waters around the headlands.

Captain Arthur Phillip sailed in through the heads on the 26th of January in 1788 to start a settlement at Sydney Cove. On the second day, he sent a forward party to Chowder Bay at Middle head where the soldiers interacted with the local people.

And on the next day, they sailed around to Cobbler's Beach where they went ashore, shook hands and danced with the Aboriginal people. It was a great and early connection that happened here at Middle head.
