This year's cold water plunge was made all the more exciting with the Alonnah Jetty almost fully submerged by unusually high tides ahead of a big low pressure system and serious cold snap! Mark Brinckman opened the Boat Club for shelter, Maureen and Gary lit a roaring fire to warm the extremities, whilst our bellies were filled with scrumptious soups made by Jo, Wina and Jess and fresh bread donated by John Bullock. The childrens lanterns struggled to cope with the windy conditions but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm for a night walk along the Dray Track.
I like it when you jump in winter. I like it when it’s snowing, I can play in the snow and all that stuff. It's fun.- Julian
Well, I think about winter, that it's pretty good because you can go outside. It's very cold, but you can also see how much winter changes with the snow. But on Bruny Island we don’t have snow. I like winter because there’s snow and it's pretty cold. And when you go outside, you can see all the changes that happen. And sometimes you get little frosty bits that hang from the leaves. - Essie
I like it because we get to do the winter Solstice Jetty jump, and this year we get to do lantern parade, which is going to be really fun. And it's also today, we all get together and play at the beach. And I live near the beach around here, so I get to watch the mountains get snow on them. -Rosie
It’s cold and I get to snuggle up in warm blankets and. Sometimes it's misty and I go off and sneak up on people.-Marrin
The best thing is when it rains at school - we all get to go inside and play! It's really, really fun no matter what season it is. And everybody goes swimming even though it’s cold.- Tilly
Probably that we go swimming even though it’s zero degrees. It’s really quick and heaps of people do it together. I like standing around the fire with hot soup.- Evelyn
I like winter when it’s really cold, you can go to the mountains and see snow falling! I like it because when it’s cold we can snuggle up in bed.- Matilda

The Cloudy Bay Supergroms did a beach cleanup at Alonnah. We drove to the Dray Track and walked to the rocky beach where we found HEAPS of rubbish like little bits of plastic, lolly pop sticks and rope.
The Bruny Kids webpage is an exciting new project that aims to provide a platform for younger writers to be showcased, and to support children’s connection with and understanding of Nature.
Bruny Island is a wonderful place to relax, forget about the worries of the world, and to reconnect with nature. There are a number of great spots to camp, perfect for kids and families, and nestled close to great walks and magic parts of the Bruny coastline.
This is a beautiful short film by Bruny Island film-maker Claire Gorman, as Bruny Island kids learn about connecting with and healing country.
