About Claire
Claire is a Bruny Island teacher who has been educating in, about and for the environment for over 20 years. Claire currently runs Bush LIL, is helping establish an outdoor classroom, and coordinates the Bruny kids webpage project.
Background
Claire started her outdoor education career as a bushwalking guide on the Freycinet Peninsula. She then moved into teaching Outdoor Education and Environmental Science. Fostering a connection to and a desire to protect the natural world, and developing connections with Nature from an early age, has long been a focus of Claire's teaching.
Claire and a colleague previously designed a Primary School sustainability focussed garden education program which they taught over a number of years.
Claire now finds herself teaching at the self proclaimed 'best school in the world', where Claire teaches Kinder-Prep-1. Claire also runs Bush Lil (a Launch into Learning Program for children aged 0-4), and is helping to establish an Outdoor Classroom at Bruny Island District School.
Claire now leads the Bruny Kids & Nature webpage project. Claire is working with teachers, parents and community groups on Bruny Island to gather material for the Bruny Kids webpage, which is facilitating and supporting Bruny kids' connection with Nature, and supporting them to write published stories about Nature.
Claire loves harnessing the innate curiosity of young children immersed in nature and learning daily from them to appreciate how lucky we are to live in such an incredible part of the world. She hopes that the children will continue to care for the environment when they have families of their own.
