The Shearwater Goes
I'm a little mutton bird. I have been fed, it's time to go to bed, but I fall asleep on the way to bed. I'm tired because I was eating all day. It's time to get up. I've been growing my adult wings and it's finally time to find my parents. They left two weeks ago. They went to find more food, but didn't come back. I went to school to practice flying, where I got taught by a blue wren. I don't know why, because I'm not a blue wren! The blue wren told us a rhyme that was the secret of how to fly. The blue wren said 'What do you do when you learn to fly? Just flap your wings and jump up high.' We tried jumping off a high rock and flapping our wings.
'I did it, I did it, I did it!' I cried.
'Amazing job!' said Mr Blue Wren. All the other shearwaters forgot to flap their wings and crashed onto the sand, but then I flew them back up to the high rock so they could try again. 'We did it, we did it, we did it!' they cried.
'Well done!' said Mr Blue Wren.
The next day all the baby shearwaters got together and flew off to find their parents.
