About Fishers and Walkers Tasmania (FAWTas)

Fishers and Walkers Tasmania is a lobby group of anglers and bushwalkers who treasure Tasmania’s wild places and uphold the principle that public access to public lands should be forever maintained and promoted. We work to ensure that our public reserves and waterways are not privatised or destroyed through inappropriate development.

Background

In 2016, the Liberal Government changed the TWWHA management plan, rezoning various sections of what was once Wilderness zone, into Self Reliant Recreation zoning, which allowed private development and Helicopter landings to take place... The first proposal, at Lake Malbena is a test case for at least 60 other proposed developments on our public lands and waters. We believe that there are alternatives that won't destroy what makes Tasmania and our wild places so unique. We will oppose the Liberal and Labor parties privatisation plans relentlessly. There are alternatives!
