Zion National Park, Utah

The two thousand-foot deep red sandstone canyon through Zion National Park is a majestic masterpiece, carved out over ancient time by the Virgin River. Known for its intense seasonal colours and dramatic vistas, Zion is Utah's first National Park.

Established in 1919, it is situated in the south-western corner of Utah, near the Nevada and Arizona borders. Like its surrounds, the Virgin River is incredibly steep, dropping an average of 71 feet every mile. It transports about a million tonnes of sediment every year. This powerful and wild force continues to carve out the canyon to this day (US National Park Service)

The National Parks Conservation Association rates the threats Zion faces. Take a look and consider supporting those looking after this global treasure.
