The was developed by the North West Walking Club from the 1970s onwards. Volunteers have continued to maintain the track, mtrail aking it possible for people to explore some of the more remote parts of the region.
One of the highlights is Leven Canyon, where the track passes through steep, forested country.
Further on, the trail reaches the Black Bluff Range, with higher mountains and more rugged scenery. The changing landscape is one of the best things about the walk, as it goes from coastal areas into Tasmania's high country.
The Penguin Cradle Trail is a challenging walk and is suited to experienced bushwalkers. Weather conditions can change quickly, and some sections can be rough or difficult to follow.
Although it is not as famous as the Overland Track, the Penguin Cradle Trail offers a quieter way to experience Tasmania's wilderness.
It combines beautiful scenery, local history and a real sense of adventure.
