Birds of Gilgit-Baltistan

Chitral & Gilgit-Baltistan
The unique alpine ecosystems of Gilgit-Baltistan in Northern Pakistan provides habitat to over 350 species of birds.

More than half of these are perching birds, with many species of waterbirds, birds of prey, along with swifts, bee-eaters, pheasants and doves.

Some of the extraordinary and beautiful birds found here include the Himalayan Griffon, the Golden Eagle, the Eurasian Eagle-Owl, and the Crimson-winged Finch.

A joint effort of Forest, Parks and Wildlife Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and Birds of Gilgit-Baltistan (an indigenous private initiative) to highlight the diverse birdlife found in the region has produced a website that compiles comprehensive and well-researched information on the “Birds of Gilgit-Baltistan”.
