Russell's short stories have been published in Imago, Island, Voices and Australian Short Stories. His essay ‘Inheriting Old Pedder’ was published in Columbus’ Blindness and Other Essays, UQP. For many years he has worked as a communications professional and adviser, including to former leaders of the Australian Greens, Dr Bob Brown and Christine Milne.Born 1966 in Hobart, Russell is a former editor of Island Magazine. Set on Lord Howe Island, his first novel 'Only the Empty Sky', about bird extinction, memory and loss, is available online.
