Background
Richard Ropero Cahilig is the co-founder and Vice President for Internal Affairs at Aklan Trekkers. A former IT professional who served as an IT Manager in Africa, Richard transitioned into environmental advocacy, where he now combines his technical skills with a deep commitment to conservation. He currently leads the field team for the PhilinCon Darwin Project, a three-year initiative funded by the UK’s Darwin Initiative, aimed at reducing hunting through community-driven solutions. This project is led by the Bristol Zoological Society in partnership with the Philippine Initiative for Conservation of the Environment and the People, Inc. (PhilinCon).
Through years of fieldwork, Richard has developed a strong connection to nature and a passion for birding. An avid traveler, mountaineer, and birder, he is also dedicated to capturing the beauty of the natural world through photography and filmmaking, which he uses as a powerful tool for environmental advocacy.
