Highlights
Mostly flat walking until the last section into Waterworks, there is often birdlife about and sometimes marsupials can be seen as well.
Track details
Starting the trail on the right hand side of Romilly Road, make your way past the signs and continue on to the track. The first 1km of the trail is quite flat, and weaves its way along the side of the hill, with views down into Sandy bay rivulet and over to the houses backing onto it along Waterworks Road.
This section of the track is great for spotting birds, and around 900 metres into the walk you will come across Fantail Quarry. This is an old quarry site with a couple of picnic tables, as well as an interpretation board which you can read for some more information on the local birdlife.
Shortly after passing Fantail Quarry, you will reach a trail that heads off to your right going uphill. Take this track. This section of the trail becomes more narrow, and leads into the forest. there are a few short, steap sections, and after a few hundred metres you will take a left hand turn and begin heading downhill to the lower section of Waterworks Reserve, with a large, grassy space and the first reservoir in front of you.
From here, you have the option of heading back the way you came, or if you wish to explore further, you can make your way into the reserve. If you wish to lengthen your walk, refer to the Waterworks Reserve Circuit trail notes.
