This mountain biking half day trip takes riders through some of the magnificent tall Eucalypt forests of South Bruny up to the rainforested saddle at the base of Mt Mangana and return. It is a physically demanding but fun half day ride through wonderful forests. This can be completed as a return mountain bike loop ride starting and finishing either from Adventure Bay or Lunawanna.

Loop Trip from Adventure Bay: From Adventure Bay, head to the start of Lockley’s Road, which coming from the store, is the road heading right immediately after crossing Captain Cook Creek (just after the Caravan Park). Follow Lockley’s Road south as it heads past some paddocks behind Adventure Bay before then heading deep into the tall Eucalypt forests of South Bruny. The dirt road, infrequently used, becomes rougher as it heads further south into the forests. Approximately [3km] south from leaving the last paddock, you’ll reach a rough dirt track to your right – Cuthbert’s Road. Follow this for about [6km] as it winds roughly westward before meeting with the Clennetts Link road. Follow Clennetts Link Road northward until it meets up with Coolangatta Road. Turn right on Coolangatta road and then making the long ascent to the rainforested saddle at the foot of Mt Mangana, before then winding the switchbacks down through beautiful Eucalypt forests with rainforest understorey, all the way back out to Adventure Bay Road, where you can turn right and return to Adventure Bay.
Loop Trip from Lunawanna: Follow Clennetts Link Road eastward until it meets up with Coolangatta Road. Turn left onto Coolangatta road and then follow it eastward before it makes the long ascent to the rainforested saddle at the foot of Mt Mangana. From here continue east along Coolangatta road as it makes big winding switchbacks down through beautiful Eucalypt forests with rainforest understorey, all the way down to Adventure Bay Road, where you turn right and ride into Adventure Bay. From here you have the option of a short stop, lunch or walk on Adventure Bay Beach, or continuing on another [1km] to the start of Lockley’s Road, which coming from the store, is the road heading right immediately after crossing Captain Cook Creek (just after the Caravan Park). Follow Lockley’s Road south as it heads past some paddocks behind Adventure Bay before then heading deep into the tall Eucalypt forests of South Bruny. Return from Adventure Bay: From the Roberts Point Ferry Terminal on Bruny Island, follow Bruny Island Main Road (B66) south for 30km before turning left onto Adventure Bay Road (C630) towards Adventure Bay. Drive south along Adventure Bay Road (C630) for [6.9km] and then turn left into a car park and turning circle at the ‘Quiet Corner’ of Adventure Bay. (If you’re staying in Adventure Bay just start from your accommodation).
Return from Lunawanna: From the Roberts Point ferry terminal on North Bruny, drive 42km south on Bruny Island Main Road (B66) until you reach the intersection with the Cloudy Bay Road (C644) in Lunawanna.Turn left onto Cloudy Bay Road, and follow it south for [1km] before turning left onto Clennetts Link Road. From here find a spot to park your car and pull your bike out ready for your half-day ride.
