Track details

Track details

The walk starts at the Discovery Park picnic area and runs alongside Waterfall Creek – where a beautiful rainforest understory is accompanied by tall ‘Stringybarks’ (Eucalyptus Obliqua) and Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon) trees. The track is well maintained about halfway to Mavista Falls which was easily accessible when the Mavista Fall reserve was created early last century. The falls can be reached along a rough taped route, but this requires considerable caution as it is wet and slippery, particularly when approaching the falls. There is a picnic shelter at the start of the walk, and a decent chance of leeches along the way! Botanist, David Nelson, who accompanied James Cook’s third voyage, collected specimens of Eucalyptus Obliqua from this site in 1777. From here, they were taken to London and declared a new genus, ‘Eucalytpus’.
