A foreshore track between Alonnah and Sheepwash bay amongst dry coastal eucalypts with an understorey of sheoaks, banksia and native grasses.
Track details
From the carpark, follow the track, which follows an old rock-walled carriageway between two jetties, north along the foreshore. The track winds through coastal bush with dry eucalypts, coastal grasses and banksia. Views out to the coast look out across the Channel towards ‘mainland’ Tasmania. With some luck, you may see a magnificent White-Bellied Sea Eagle searching up and down the coast for food. This track passes the remains of an old 1850s settlers’ camp where logs from Bruny Island were prepared for barging and export.
Location
21-25 Ritchie Street, Alonnah Tasmania 7150, Australia
From the Roberts Point ferry terminal on North Bruny, drive 35km south on Bruny Island Main Road (B66) before turning right onto Pontoon Road where you can park your car. There are also access points to the walk from Ritchie St and Matthew Flinders Drive at its northern end.
