From Adventure Bay, head to the start of Lockley’s Road, which coming from the store, is the road heading right immediately after crossing Captain Cook Creek (just after the Caravan Park). Follow Lockley’s Road south as it heads past some paddocks behind Adventure Bay before then heading deep into the tall Eucalypt forests of South Bruny. The dirt road, infrequently used, becomes rougher as it heads further south into the forests. Along the way, you’ll pass the southern end of the Slide Track, before eventually meeting a right hand turn onto Stafford’s road. Turn right onto Stafford’s road, and follow it as it winds roughly westward out to eventually come out of the forests into some farms and then meeting with Cloudy Bay Road. Head south on Cloudy Bay Road for about [1.5km] until you reach Cloudy Bay beach, a mighty ocean facing beach with roaring surf and a view out to the Southern Ocean. From here you can choose to walk to Cloudy Bay Corner, (stay below the high-tide mark on the beach) and camp or do some short walks. From here you can return directly north on Cloudy Bay Road for [3km] before turning right onto Cuthberts Road, or you might want to keep away from the traffic by retracing your path on Cloudy Bay Road north for 1.5km before turning right back onto Staffords road, following Staffords road East for [1km] before turning left onto Clennetts Road, which travels through forests for a few kms before coming back out onto Cloudy Bay Road not long before the turn right onto Cuthberts Road. Follow Cuthberts Road East for [400m] before taking the left fork onto Clennetts Link Road and following it northward until it meets up with Coolangatta Road. Turn right on Coolangatta road and then making the long ascent to the rainforested saddle at the foot of Mt Mangana, before then winding the switchbacks down through beautiful Eucalypt forests with rainforest understorey, all the way back out to Adventure Bay Road, where you can turn right and return to Adventure Bay.
Conditions
This is a mountain bike cycling loop largely on old dirt forestry roads, some of which are well graded, some quite rough in sections, it includes significant hills and is a physically arduous day
