About South Hobart Progress Association
Background
The South Hobart Progress Association Inc. was established in 1922. It aimed to provide a forum of expression for the residents of South Hobart to convey opinions to local, State and Commonwealth governments in matters of local interest. The Association also exists to chart a vision for the suburb in several key respects, including planning, conservation, community connection, and local events.
Nestled in the foothills of Mt Wellington/kunanyi, South Hobart is the first true suburb of Hobart, Tasmania. South Hobart is a beautiful location for quiet family living. The suburb features a variety of attractions including public gardens, walks, places of historical interest, a wealth of heritage buildings, plus sporting and educational facilities.
Among our tourist attractions are the World Heritage-listed Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, the Cascade Brewery and Gardens, and the Hobart Rivulet Linear Park. Increasingly visitors are coming to the rivulet with hopes of sighting a platypus, which is both an opportunity and a challenge.
