Swaying Over the 7th Aklan Hammock Festival

Kuno.Earth proudly supported this year’s festival as one of the major sponsors. The event was held in Barangay Fatima, in the municipality of New Washington, Aklan province, on Panay Island.
Driven by a deep sense of curiosity and advocacy, Kuno.Earth – Panay felt a strong alignment with the mission of protecting the island’s wild places. The festival’s community outreach program, organized by Aklan Trekkers, ensures that part of the proceeds directly contributes to co-creating social impact in a selected community.
The Aklan Hammock Festival is more than just an event—it’s an annual gathering in nature, a vibrant celebration of our environment’s beauty, and a unique platform for building meaningful community, all united for a vital cause.
Raz Salvarita, Kuno.Earth Panay Project Coordinator, took a moment to introduce Kuno.Earth to the more than 80 participants. He shared how it began with a small group of deeply committed volunteers and conservation advocates in Tasmania.
The positive reception from the crowd marked an important moment of traction for the project. It also served as a great opportunity to connect with Earthmob contributors who have shared their stories through the Kuno.Earth online nature platform.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was a visit to the mangrove site called Kapispisan Island, a habitat for local and migratory birds. It also serves as a learning site for students and researchers from Aklan State University.
Additionally, the group visited a community of local weavers, Pinamuk-an Raffia Producers, who craft mats and table runners using raffia. This visit offered a glimpse into traditional culture that is now being rediscovered and revived.
We continue to stand in solidarity, ensuring that each festival remains a unique experience—one that uses creativity to share stories and images that advance the cause of conservation through digital storytelling.
It is our aspiration to build strong partnerships with organizations such as Aklan Trekkers on Panay Island, where we can grow and learn from one another, expanding and amplifying the call for conservation and fostering a renewed commitment to love and protect the Earth.
